Position Overview
GTI Energy is seeking a Sales Engineer with a Mechanical Engineering background to serve as the technical front line for new business opportunities. This role sits within the Business Development team and acts as the primary technical owner during project intake, scoping, feasibility evaluation, and pricing development. This individual functions as a pre‑sales engineer allocated to BD, bridging customer requirements, internal engineering teams, and commercial strategy to ensure new projects are accurately scoped, technically viable, and competitively priced. Responsibilities
Project Intake & Technical Scoping
Lead technical intake for new business opportunities, serving as the primary engineering point of contact for BD. Facilitate kickoff meetings for new projects, ensuring alignment on scope, assumptions, risks, and delivery requirements. Review customer drawings, specifications, and requirements to assess feasibility, complexity, and risk. Document and communicate estimating assumptions, technical clarifications, exclusions, and open items required from customers. Partner with NPI and Engineering teams to evaluate prototype concepts, change requests, and early production feasibility. Identify technical risks, cost drivers, and manufacturability considerations early in the sales cycle. Proposal Development & Pricing Support
Develop clear, structured cost summaries and supporting documentation for new project pricing. Support Business Development in packaging final proposals, ensuring technical completeness and commercial accuracy. Translate engineering requirements into pricing inputs aligned with GTI’s manufacturing capabilities. Maintain and continuously improve standardized templates, tools, and workflows used for estimating and proposal development. Ensure scope clarity between customer requirements and internal deliverables prior to contract award. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Act as a liaison between Business Development, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality during the pre‑award phase. Support internal handoff from sales to execution teams following project award to ensure scope continuity. Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating accuracy and project scoping. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, applications engineering, or technical pre‑sales. Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. Experience working cross‑functionally with engineering, operations, and commercial teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard engineering documentation tools. Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting sales, estimating, or proposal development in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Exposure to modular construction, industrial fabrication, or engineered‑to‑order products. Familiarity with NPI processes, cost modeling, or early‑phase project feasibility analysis. Experience standardizing processes, templates, or technical workflows. Benefits and Perks
