The Network Systems Administrator oversees and administers network design, implementation, organization, and troubleshooting, as well as serving as the primary Systems Administrator for Microsoft AD, Entra, Teams VOIP, and other systems. Oversees management of network switches, routers, and servers to monitor underlying communications protocols and supporting network hardware.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide network support by surveying performance needs and goals of network users; interface with users, consultants, technical teams and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of hardware installation.
Design, specify, and document network configurations according to user needs; utilize outside support resources as appropriate; help install and customize network instruments to allow for appropriate entry and retrieval of information from the servers.
Develop an effective firewall and monitor appropriate security procedures to safeguard the system from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users and damage to data.
Direct the lifecycle management, optimization, and security of the Cisco-Meraki wireless local area network (WLAN) to ensure high-performance connectivity for faculty, staff, students, and guests.
Serve as the lead system administrator for Gateway’s core identity, directory, and communication infrastructures (Microsoft Active Directory, Entra, Teams Phone VOIP, etc.), ensuring high availability, security, and forward innovation.
Serve as the primary contact for hosting environments, including cloud services, ERP hosted servers, and ERP (Jenzabar) services.
Assist in the development and maintenance of hardware and software policies.
Design and maintain effective backup solutions.
Perform additional duties as required.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or equivalent, and at least 3 years of experience in the field. Experience with the Microsoft ecosystem (especially AD, Entra ID, and Teams VOIP), Cisco/Meraki systems, networking fundamentals (DHCP, TCP/IP, wireless technologies, etc.), scripting languages (SQL, PowerShell, Python, etc.), virtual machines, and multiple network operating systems (Windows and Unix-based servers) desired. Certifications, including CCNA, CNE/MCSE, CompTIA, Microsoft MS-700 and SC-300, etc. are preferred but not required. Experience incorporating Apple products into a Microsoft environment is also a plus.
Language Skills:
English required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and perform effectively before groups.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Ability to use and support Zoom video conferencing, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel programs as well as the ability to adapt to new systems; familiarity with relational databases (SQL), HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and browser security. Good understanding of Windows client and server operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, ERP/SIS systems and report writers, Cisco network, and VoIP.
Other Abilities and Skills:
Cloud-based technologies, topologies (Ethernet) and configurations (TCP/IP, wireless). Knowledge and experience with PC hardware and software technology, Windows and UNIX operating systems, file interchange, shared network resources, internet access, and electronic mail.
Physical Demands:
Hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; sit frequently; stand and walk occasionally; lift or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to focus.
Work Environment:
Quiet indoor office setting; occasional moderate noise during meetings and social events; well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned; adequate ventilation.
