Job Summary The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for safely preparing and administering medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and state regulations. The CMA ensures accurate medication delivery, proper documentation, and promotes resident safety, dignity, and well-being. Key Responsibilities Medication Administration
Prepare and administer medications as ordered and within approved timeframes. Verify resident identity and medication orders prior to administration. Observe residents during medication administration and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions. Administer PRN medications and document results. Ensure medications are stored, handled, and disposed of according to policy. Participate in narcotic counts and report discrepancies immediately. Documentation & Reporting
Accurately document all medications on the MAR. Report medication errors, discrepancies, or changes in resident condition to the Charge Nurse. Maintain complete and timely records. Clinical Support
Maintain knowledge of common medications, dosages, and side effects. Follow care plans and communicate resident needs to licensed nursing staff. Assist with admissions, transfers, and medication reconciliation as assigned. Safety & Compliance
Follow infection control, safety, and sanitation procedures. Maintain secure handling of medication keys and carts. Comply with all state, federal, and facility regulations. Professional Conduct
Maintain resident confidentiality and rights. Treat all residents with dignity, respect, and compassion. Attend required training and maintain CMA certification. Requirements Qualifications
Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification in the state of employment. Completion of a state-approved CMA training program. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with residents, families, and healthcare team members. Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shift. Ability to lift and assist residents (up to 50+ lbs with assistance). Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as needed.
