POSITION SUMMARY A Central Sterilization Technician will function as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of the Central Sterile Processing Lead. The CST will be responsible for cleaning, wrapping, and sterilization of all surgical instruments, organizing surgical instrument trays, manual cleaning and high-level disinfection of endoscopes, recording sterilizer test results, and will perform other duties as directed by the Manager of Surgical Services. Education
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent. Completed Central Sterilization Technician program. Certification in central sterilization required within 1 year of hire date.
Position requirements Current BLS certification. Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Work Environment Requires long periods of standing at times. Requires quick movement, agility and fast response time. Potential exposure to blood and body fluids Able to work in moist warm areas and some restricted spaces. Able to work with hazardous materials, chemicals, detergents and disinfectants. Operates steam and chemical sterilizers, automatic endoscopic reprocessor and other related equipment. Frequent lifting and/or handling of lightweight and heavy items. Ability to perform CPR-a strenuous activity. Must be in good physical and mental health, and able to perform under pressure.
