Job Summary The Supervisor oversees the afternoon central sterilization staff, ensures effective instrument processing, and addresses staffing issues. This role includes assisting the manager with hiring, evaluations, counseling, and terminations while coordinating workflow and services across departments to resolve operational challenges. This position directs the entire instrument handling process, including receiving, decontaminating, cleaning, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments and packs. You'll prepare and support daily activities, aid dispensing staff with pre-orders, monitor inventory levels, and manage supplies ordering. The role also addresses damaged instruments and barcoding issues, ensuring efficient repair processes. You'll maintain safety standards to ensure adherence to quality systems and documentation related to sterilization. The Supervisor will secure the dispensing and central sterilization units and promote a safe work environment. The position ensures that all sterilization parameters are met, guaranteeing the safety and readiness of instruments for use. Responsibilities*
Supervise central sterilization, dispensing and dental assistants, monitor instrument processing and resolve any staffing concerns.
Coordinate workflow between departments.
Assist in the resolution of operating issues.
Direct supervision (receiving, decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization and distribution of surgical, procedural instruments and packages).
Monitor and maintain department inventory and supplies.
Collaborate with and act as a liaison with other departments to support and facilitate safe and effective patient care.
Assist dispensing staff in assembling pre-orders when needed.
Review inventory and order supplies.
Load damaged goods for repair.
Assist with damaged or broken instruments including bur blocks, cassette replacement, etc.
Maintain safety standards to assure compliance.
Assure adherence to all quality systems, checks, and measures.
Monitor and maintain sterilization documentation.
Prepare and assist with daily operations.
Assure dispensing and central sterilization units are appropriately secured.
Demonstrate flexibility.
Maintain confidentiality.
Integrate ethical principles, professional standards, and evidence-based practice in all aspects.
Promote a safe and healthy work environment.
Assure parameters of sterilization are met and instruments are safe for use.
Required Qualifications*
Certified Registered Central Service Technician certification
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
3 years of supervisory experience in a health care environment that includes facilitating personnel issues, considerable experience providing high-level support with attention to detail and follow-through
Creative thinking, analytical, problem-solving skills, independent decision-making abilities, self-direction, organized, self-motivated, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong operational and clinical skills in central processing with the proven ability to address difficult/emergent situations in a professional and confident manner
