About
Communicates in a professional and courteous manner with medical and nursing personnel. Manage daily operations of division Responsible for preparation of gross description, dissection and prosecting of human gross specimens, prepares frozen sections, electron microscopic sections, and specimens for clinical laboratory. Assure correct accessioning of all specimens, dictation selection and submission of tissue sections for microscopic examination, preparation of tissue cassettes for automated processing, photographing gross specimens and completion of photomicroscopy duties. Responsible for compliance with regulatory accreditation standards. Develops, revises, and updates policies and procedures in accordance with required regulatory, departmental, and university standards. Interprets departmental and hospital policies and assures compliance. Oversee maintenance of equipment, laboratory supplies and work areas. Administers personnel policies including, but not limited to: scheduling time and attendance, discipline and dismissal, performance evaluations, training and competency for division personnel. Coordinates, trains, orientates, and mentors new employees and trainees in new and established laboratory procedures and assesses staff for laboratory competency for their role in the Surgical Pathology Gross Room and Autopsy. Communicates pertinent information to staff members, management, medical directors, and other divisions. Analyzes, evaluates and takes appropriate actions to resolve system issues with leaders throughout the organization. Responsible for division budget to include labor resources, reagents/consumables, capital equipment, and contribution margin expectations. Responsible for creating appropriate work schedules for subordinate employees and for planning daily work assignments in order to maintain adequate personnel coverage for laboratory efficiency. Supervise the work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning laboratory work, evaluating work performed and handling procedural and technical laboratory problems. Manages Quality Metrics to improve the value of patient care Adhere to internal controls established for department. Perform related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree in related field and three (3) years of experience as a Certified Pathologist Assistant. Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology as a Pathologists Assistant, PA (ASCP) or Doctorate of Medicine.
