About the Role
Join us in building a single platform that simplifies the entire car buying and selling experience. As a Frontend Staff Software Engineer on the Websites Engineering Team, you will revitalize customer-facing tooling across Dealer Inspire, shaping core UI capabilities that power the Cars Commerce product platform. This is a 100% remote role; onsite interviews may be required. Responsibilities
Lead front‑end architecture by defining and driving reusable, reliable, and scalable front‑end frameworks across the platform. Author and evolve component libraries—design shared UI components and design systems that support accessibility, theming, maintainability, and developer ergonomics. Champion user experience and performance—optimize web performance across browsers and devices, collaborate with design and product to elevate interactivity and visual fidelity. Collaborate cross‑team—work closely with engineering, design, and product partners to align on front‑end strategies, elevate UI consistency, and reduce duplication. Mentor and influence—coach engineers and shape team‑ and department‑wide best practices. Drive documentation and developer experience—treat components as products, delivering excellent documentation and usage patterns. Contribute full‑stack as needed—integrate UIs with APIs and work with back‑end developers. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. 10+ years of frontend engineering experience, deep knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, and familiarity with multiple frameworks such as React, Vue, and Svelte. Expert understanding of browser fundamentals: HTML, CSS (Flexbox, Grid), DOM, event lifecycle, rendering, and performance tuning. Strong experience using browser dev tools for layout debugging, JS tracing, and performance profiling. Demonstrated experience architecting and maintaining component-based design systems with theming, responsive behavior, and accessibility. Passion for user experience, developer ergonomics, and performance measurement (Core Web Vitals). Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives, influence teams, and align multiple groups around technical direction. Solid understanding of backend technologies, RESTful APIs, and authentication patterns such as OAuth and JWT. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for articulating technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences. Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation, provide incident resolution, and conduct post‑mortems. Nice‑to‑have
Experience building production applications using a Server‑Driven UI (SDUI) approach across web and mobile. Experience in a platform or SaaS company. Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range:
