About
Our Dodson, LA lumber mill has an immediate opening for an Electrical Superintendent. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position and provides excellent growth potential and opportunities for advancement.
Dodson Lumber is located on Hwy 167 approximately 10 miles south of Jonesboro, LA, and approximately 15 miles north of Winnfield, LA. Many of our Dodson employees reside in Jackson, Winn, and Lincoln Parishes. Lincoln Parish is home to Louisiana Tech University and Grambling State University and North Louisiana is home to various state parks such as Lake Claiborne and Kisatchie National Forest with a variety of activities, like hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, and camping.
Our mill produces high-quality Southern Yellow Pine lumber used for residential construction throughout the Southern and Eastern USA. We have a reputation for manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement. The current opportunity is on day shift, however the successful candidate must be willing to work other shifts and weekends when needed.
Key Functions:
Provides leadership for and mentors the electrical team, PLC Engineers, and PLC Technicians. Responsible for the training of the PLC/Technical group in troubleshooting and programming PLC’s and mill-specific Optimization equipment. Leads Process Improvements through constant evaluation of mill performance and interaction with the Safety, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance Teams. This position reports to the Mill Manager.
The Electrical Superintendent will plan, develop, manage, and provide effective leadership for the team through:
Ensuring the safety of all associates by identifying safety issues and taking measures to proactively address concerns
Driving an electrical safety culture based on NFPA 70E compliance
Actively supervising and developing the process control and electrical team to ensure effective communication across/between shifts and with the production teams
Utilizing preventive maintenance systems to reduce unscheduled downtime
Efficient use of reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure uptime, production volume, and quality goals are met
Implementing effective use of training resources to build team capacity by enhancing and building the team's technical skills
Using computer-based programs to support effective prioritization of maintenance requests, manage maintenance inventory, and delegate maintenance resources
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in a supervisory role in an industrial environment
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent education and experience
- A passion for safety and the ability to lead a team to a high level of safety performance
- Work related experience in leading and ensuring compliance with safety initiatives
- Desire and ability to manage people and projects
- High level of proficiency with PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Ability to program and troubleshoot AC or DC power inverters/frequency drives
- Proven expertise in preventative and predictive maintenance systems and methods
- Ability to read and understand electrical power and control system schematics
- Ability to identify root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and electronic communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to raise performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Strong work ethic, good judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment
- Must have track record of consistently demonstrating leadership skills as well as positive influence and accomplishments in proactively influencing safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and people development
- Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in MS Office, other windows-based programs, internet skills, and computer-based maintenance programs (SAP)
- Must be able to accept calls during non-business hours as needed
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, when necessary
- Excellent communications (verbal and written) to include technical writing and presentations
- Working knowledge of business and financial concepts
- Demonstrated results in achieving and sustaining business goals
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Engineering Technology discipline - electrical engineering preferred
- PLC Expert
- Familiarity with electrical power distribution systems
- Knowledge of mechanical and fluid power systems
- Manufacturing plant experience

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $108,500-$162,700 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 15% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
