Conservation Officer (Esk & Coastal Streams)

The North York Moors National Park Authority looks after one of the most unique areas in the British Isles. The North York Moors features beautiful moorlands and woodland, offering a diversity of landscapes and wildlife.

We are seeking a Conservation Officer to join our team on a full-time basis for a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The Role:

As a Conservation Officer, you will support the delivery of conservation projects within the Esk and Coastal Streams Catchment. Your work will contribute to the long-term health of freshwater environments by collaborating with land managers, external partners and conservation teams to implement targeted restoration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and delivering these projects, you will offer funding and advice to land managers, oversee in-channel restoration works and address obstacles to fish migration.
  • Contribute to evaluation and monitoring of works; support quarterly updates and provide reports as required for Authority management, external bodies, and funders.
  • Conduct and manage river habitat walkover surveys.
  • Support the implementation of catchment management objectives.

About You:

To be considered as a Conservation Officer, you will need:

  • Experience of working in rural areas with land managers, volunteers, partner organisations and communities, implementing countryside conservation projects.
  • Experience of partnership working.
  • Report writing and research skills.
  • Education to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate subject such as ecology or environmental science, or at least two years experience in a relevant field.
  • A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.

This role involves occasional weekends and evenings.
