ABOUT US

Strides Toronto Support Services ("Strides Toronto") Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency supporting infants, children, youth and young adults from birth to age 29, and their families, primarily across east Toronto. We offer community-based, residential and treatment programs—including mental health counselling, autism services, early intervention, day treatment, education, outreach and community support—using a client-centered, evidence-informed approach. Since 2015, Strides Toronto has served as Toronto's Lead Agency for Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health, partnering with 21 core service providers to provide system leadership, citywide planning, coordinated service delivery and program alignment. Strides Toronto also leads initiatives with broader reach, including Help Ahead and the HOPE Strategy across Toronto and One Stop Talk/Parlons Maintenant and the Provincial Youth Outreach Worker Program across Ontario.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an existing vacancy for a full-time contract Classroom Facilitator 2 position that will be responsible for providing guidance and clinical expertise to support successful learning experience. Along with the CF1, the CF2 will be responsible for working in a classroom to deliver a group-based program focused on developing school-readiness skills (i.e., communication, play, social interactions, functional routines, behavioural self-management, and pre-academic skills). The service is delivered in center-based and community-based environments, with possibility of telehealth services when needed. The Entry to School program supports families with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are between the ages of 3 to 6 entering school for the first time.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop and deliver group-based services focused on developing school-readiness skills to children between the ages of 3 to 6, diagnosed with Autism, with the goal to teach communication, readiness, play and social interactions, functional routines, behavioural self-management and pre-academic skills in a group-based setting.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and implement appropriate learning activities and strategies designed to help the child reach their learning goals.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals including but not limited to SLPs, OTs, daycare, teachers, school staff and the like.
  • Demonstrate and explain effective curriculum and guidance strategies; models, support, mentor and guide the Classroom Facilitators L-1.
  • Oversee general operations of the classroom to ensure teaching environment is prepared and organized with appropriate materials. 
  • Write reports and progress notes and flag exceptional circumstances as well as the need for changes to the learning plan and class-wide learning plans.
  • Complete administrative duties to ensure proper documentation as per organization's standards and Ministry requirements to ensure compliance. Perform other duties to support clinical team and workplace.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, caregivers, partner agencies, internal team and volunteers.
  • Ensure overall health and safety of children enrolled in the program by maintaining a sanitary and safe environment and identifying children who are unwell.

THE "MUST HAVES"

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role: 

  • Undergraduate Degree or Diploma from a recognized university or college in a related field (i.e., social services, psychology or ABA).
  • Minimum three (03) years working experience with children with developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in program planning and case management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in human development, community supports continuum for families, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and skill building techniques (including communications) with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.
  • Ability to manage children with challenging behaviors and communicate effectively with parents in a positive way.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as a Lead/Mentor as well as independently. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Autism Program.
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

THE 'NICE TO HAVES'

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Team lead/ mentor experience an asset.
  • Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
