Position Summary The Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of Transmission, Distribution (T&D), and Substation construction projects. This role oversees project performance from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all technical standards, utility requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Oversight
Manage all phases of T&D and substation projects, including planning, design review, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Coordinate with engineering teams, construction crews, subcontractors, utilities, and inspectors to ensure project readiness and smooth execution.
Monitor project progress, budgets, schedules, and resource allocation; update stakeholders regularly.
Ensure construction activities comply with technical specifications, drawings, utility standards, and safety policies.
Develop and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow.
Review and negotiate contracts, change orders, and vendor/subcontractor agreements.
Track progress quantities, productivity, and earned value metrics.
Approve invoices, quantities, and project-related expenditures.
Safety & Quality
Enforce company, utility, OSHA, and industry safety standards on all job sites.
Conduct regular safety meetings and audits with field teams.
Ensure quality control procedures are followed and project deliverables meet engineering standards.
Client, Utility & Stakeholder Relations
Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, utility representatives, and project stakeholders.
Lead project meetings, provide updates, and proactively address issues or risks.
Maintain strong relationships with clients and partners to support repeat business.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain project schedules, RFIs, submittals, permits, and documentation.
Provide detailed monthly project reports, progress updates, and financial tracking.
Manage project closeout: as-builts, commissioning documents, punch lists, and turnover packages.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience managing Transmission, Distribution, or Substation construction projects.
Strong knowledge of high-voltage and medium-voltage systems, substation components, overhead/underground T&D, and utility standards.
Experience working with utility owners, EPC partners, subcontractors, and field crews.
Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and project risk.
Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
Preferred Skills
Experience managing projects for major utilities or EPC contractors.
Familiarity with NESC, NEC, OSHA, and utility construction safety requirements.
Proficiency with project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, etc.).
Background in design-build or EPC delivery models.
