About
The Role:
Gantrail is a world leader in the specialised field of crane rail systems, serving customers in most countries. We seek a Mechanical Design Engineer early in their career to bring skills to a successful and dynamic company.
You'll work in the Technical Department under the Technical Manager's supervision. The role includes work on both R&D projects and ongoing support to Sales and Operations teams. You will contribute to designing and developing next-generation products from concept to launch. This involves creating 3D models, technical drawings, test plans, and reports, as well as inputting marketing material. Alongside R&D, you'll provide key support to Sales and Operations teams with technical enquiries and generating engineering drawings and supporting documentation.
This role involves daily engagement with sales and production/operations departments, as well as various customers and suppliers worldwide to advance business operations. Your contributions will have a direct impact on business success.
About You:
As an engineer with industrial experience in civil, mechanical, or product design environments, you're looking for a technical role within a design and manufacturing environment to support customer enquiries and R&D projects. You're a team player with good communication skills who can thrive in a small yet busy organisation where everyone plays a vital role.
Responsibilities:
- Create engineering layouts, arrangement, and part drawings for customers.
- Generate and update technical documentation and tools such as product datasheets and in-house excel calculators.
- Complete design checks of proposed layouts and products using in-house calculations.
- Review purchase order details to propose and confirm correct product selection
- Actively support R&D project progression:
- Assist with drawings and part design.
- Support product development processes e.g. documentation, planning and reporting of projects.
- Execute investigative and verification mechanical tests on-site and with 3rd party labs and suppliers.
- Provide Quality Management System support.

Technical Requirements:
- Education to degree level or HND in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Strong CAD skills and experience (AutoCAD and SolidWorks preferred).
- Effective technical writing and communication skills – reports, procedures, presentations.
- Proficient use of the Microsoft Office package (Excel, Teams, and Word especially).
Desirable:
- FEA
- Experience working to engineering drawing best practices.
- Awareness of product development processes and tools.
- Awareness of project management methods.
Additional Requirements:
- Located within commuting distance to Gloucester, as the role will be office-based three days a week.

£29,000 - £35,000 p/a
