Role overview

Our client are looking for an experienced Database Operations Manager to join their IT team. The Database Operations Manager will be responsible for the performance, management, integrity and security of the organisation’s databases including our bespoke CRM (Customer Relationship Management) platform as well as building a good understanding of how the organisation’s data is critical to the smooth running of our business. This role will involve ensuring data availability and troubleshooting database issues if they occur. The ideal candidate will have a balance of an understanding of database technologies as well as being business facing with an ability to work alongside anyone in the business on how to optimise how we use our data going forward.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Management

  • Manage, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases

  • Monitor database performance, manage change control, implement changes (tested in our non production environment), and apply new patches and versions where required

  • Ensure high levels of data availability and performance

  • Ensure data consistency

Database Security

  • Implement and maintain database security policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of company data

  • Regularly monitor database access and activity logs for suspicious activities

  • Support in starters and leavers security

  • Enforce Access Controls (users, roles, permissions)

Data Migration

  • Take a leadership role in planning and executing data migration from the legacy system to the new business Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and projects system

  • Work alongside external partners to ensure that all core business data is migrated, maintaining data integrity

Backup and Recovery

  • Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans to prevent data loss and ensure data integrity

  • Perform regular backups and restorations to ensure data safety and availability

  • Ensure Data Recovery plans are in place and tested

  • Ensure high availability of data such as Clustering

Performance Tuning

  • Optimise database performance through indexing, query optimisation, and other techniques

  • Analyse and resolve database performance issues in a timely manner

  • Conduct regular performance audits

Database Development and Design

  • Provide guidance on data structure and query optimisation

  • Support design of future Management Information projects

  • Review database with key team members on a regular basis to perform Lessons Learnt, new ways of working, listen to new ideas and review as a team before implementation

  • Carry out updates and new ways of working within the database and/or coordinate and facilitate these changes through our team of 3rd party partners and consultants

Troubleshooting and Support

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database related issues quickly and efficiently

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of database configurations, procedures and processes

  • Generate reports on database performance, security and usage as required

Compliance

  • Ensure that database management practices comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies

  • Stay current with the latest database technologies and best practices

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Relevant database management certifications are highly desirable

  • Proof of working in these environments as relevant
