THE ROLE

As a Department Associate, you provide retail services to a unique client base - members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and in assisting them, you are helping your community. You assist in the set-up of various departments ensuring shelves are stocked, and faced, and properly signed. You provide technical and professional guidance on sales and products and deal with customer concerns or complaints to ensure customer satisfaction. You assist with ordering products and price new inventory.

The Department Associate may also provide a variety of other retail services, including regular retail services, dry cleaning, lottery services, self-serve gas services, and postal services. You will operate Point of Sales systems, the debit/credit machine, and maintain a float. You may take and prepare food and beverage orders and prepare takeout food, while ensuring cleanliness of food service and eating areas.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience

Food Handling Certification, as required

Experience

In retail and convenience operations

In cash handling

In sales and merchandising

In food and beverage preparation

In food and beverage service

Competencies

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

French Essential

OTHER INFORMATION

This is a casual position working no more than (13 1/3 or 12 ½) hours per week. Casual employees are hired on a temporary basis for a fixed period of time not exceeding twelve months. A new contract can be issued without a break in service.

This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.

CANEX: From specialized tactical gear and mess kits to everyday groceries, CANEX is a unique retail operation that supports our troops and the military family lifestyle. CANEX has 35 retail, convenience and grocery stores on Bases, Wings and Units across Canada, two retail stores in Europe, under the NATEX brand, and CANEX.ca. No matter where they’re posted, Canadian military families have access to the goods and services they need.
