A Back-End Engineer works on components and multi-tier web applications. In other words, she/he is responsible to create web app functions and to define the logic behind them. She/he works hand in hand with Front-End Developers who work more on the customer-facing components. Focusing on coding and debugging web applications is one of their major responsibilities. She/he needs to know at least one of the following programming languages: HTML, CSS, Java or PHP and a framework. Understanding and managing a hosting environment, as well as administration of databases are frequent tasks.
Good organizational and great interpersonal skills are essential for this position. A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a similar field is a minimum requirement to become a Back-End Engineer.
