This position serves as an IT Network Administrator for the Network Operations Center (NOC) of the Infrastructure, Operations, and Network (ION) bureau. The bureau is part of the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) for the Department of Health (DOH).
Why does the job exist?
The Network Administrator is responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, and availability of DOH's mission-critical network infrastructure, which delivers IT services to NM DOH offices and facilities statewide.
The Network Administrator provides technical support, monitoring, configuration, deployment, maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, security, disaster recovery, and business continuity for the DOH LAN/WAN infrastructure.
This position works closely with DOH programs, ITSD staff and leadership, and the NM Department of Information Technology (DoIT) technical teams to ensure optimal availability, performance, and utilization of network resources.
How does it get done?
Design, configure, install, and maintain routers and core, distribution, and access layer switches to ensure statewide connectivity, redundancy, and optimal network performance. Administer and support the SD-WAN environment. Administer Windows Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP infrastructure services. Administer wireless networks and wireless access points. Manage Azure cloud network services, including VNets, subnets, NSGs, and related cloud networking components. Coordinate with the Office of the Chief Security Officer to safeguard network infrastructure against threats and vulnerabilities. Respond to incidents, escalate issues as needed, and document resolutions within the central ticketing system. Collaborate with DoIT, ISPs, and vendors to ensure timely resolution of network-related issues. Provide networking support for DOH healthcare facilities, public health sites, and administrative offices, including new implementations, modifications, and troubleshooting. Conduct site walkthroughs and coordinate equipment procurement and wiring quotes through state contract vendors. Monitor network performance using a Network Monitoring System and maintain accurate documentation, project records, and network diagrams for all installations and changes.

This position supports the entire Department of Health, including large healthcare facilities, healthcare providers, essential worker offices, public health sites, and administrative offices statewide.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal Candidate:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and five (5) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration or any related field.
3-5 years of experience working within a networking environment. 3-5 years of experience maintaining network equipment (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and WAPs). 3-5 years of experience maintaining Cisco Routers and Switches 3-5 years working with Network Management Systems and Trouble Ticket Systems 1-3 years Managing and maintaining an Active Directory Domain, DNS, and Group Policy at an Enterprise level
Having attained or actively working toward Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in network administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage and sitting for extended period of time. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional travel may be required as well as after hours support.
