Über
The Focal and Naim mobile app is used to control streaming audio products and wireless headphones. It is available on iOS and Android and is designed and developed in-house.
Working in the Research and Development department Mobile Apps team you will assist in app development focusing on user experience and user interface design.
Predominately using Figma you will either work on new app features or improving existing features. Firstly working on wireframes then building out the feature and developing the user interface. Using the prototypes you have created you will test the usability of the design.
We anticipate the internship will last between 1 and 3 months over the summer of 2026
Key Responsibilities
Depending on your background and phase of the project:
Work with the design and development team on new app features.
Use Figma to design, wireframes and prototype user interfaces.
Design UI elements.
Test designs on users
Work with App developers to implement and test designs.
Keep a clear record of the design process and any usability testing undertaken.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
An interest in user interface design and passionate about user experience.
Experience with relevant design software such as Figma, Sketch or Adobe Illustrator.
Familiar with common iOS and Android design patterns.
Interest in music and familiar with different streaming music platforms.
Product design, graphic design or similar background or plans to study in this field.
Good communication skills, comfortable talking to designers, developers and users.

Naim founder Julian Vereker MBE (1945-2000) was a racing car driver, entrepreneur and self-taught engineer with a deep passion for music. Spending his spare time listening to and recording his friends playing live in the 1960s, Julian found that playback on his system at home fell woefully short of the experience he craved.
Not content with second best, he decided to design his own amplifiers and loudspeakers, ignoring accepted wisdom and focusing on aspects of performance that made music burst to life. These first designs laid the foundations for a range of iconic and award-winning hi-fi products that would reach well into the next century.
