Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are key responsibilities. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. Promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education is essential. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care following the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care. This role focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in delivering quality care and mentoring or precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities: Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development and Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care. Reviews and revises the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization and patients.
Evaluation: Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions.
Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. This includes care, treatment, and services provided during their stay and at discharge.
Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor and preceptor. Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement appropriately. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts. Implements practice changes and complies with regulatory standards. Participates in the Practice Governance model.
