Pharmacist $90 - $100 an hour Location: Primary Duty Station: Santa Fe Indian Health Center (SFIHC), Santa Fe, NM Secondary/Rotational Site: Santa Clara Health Center, Española, NM Position Type: Full-Time Schedule: 8-hour or 9-hour shifts, Monday–Friday Typical hours include:
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (SFIHC) 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (SCHC)
Position Summary The Pharmacist provides comprehensive outpatient and limited inpatient pharmacy services in support of clinical operations within an Indian Health Service healthcare environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and effective preparation, dispensing, and management of medications while adhering to all applicable federal regulations, professional standards, and facility policies. Pharmacists may rotate between the Santa Fe Indian Health Center and the Santa Clara Health Center based on operational and patient care needs. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Interpret and verify prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and therapeutic appropriateness Prepare, compound, and dispense medications, including sterile and complex intravenous admixtures Review patient medical records to assess allergies, drug interactions, contraindications, and treatment compatibility Provide direct patient counseling regarding medication usage, dosage, precautions, side effects, and storage Consult with prescribing providers to resolve discrepancies, recommend alternative therapies, and support optimal drug selection Perform pharmacokinetic calculations and dosing recommendations for medications with narrow therapeutic indices Monitor and maintain pharmacy inventory, including proper storage conditions, expiration dating, and stock rotation Ensure accurate labeling, documentation, and compliance with medication safety requirements Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team Utilize electronic health record systems and pharmacy information systems in accordance with privacy and security requirements Identify opportunities to improve pharmacy operations and quality of patient care Provide services to culturally diverse patient populations and work effectively with interpreters when necessary Comply with all facility policies, professional standards, and federal healthcare regulations
Physical and Work Environment Requirements Prolonged standing and frequent walking throughout the healthcare facility Occasional lifting and movement of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds Routine exposure to clinical environments and communicable diseases Handling of hazardous medications and chemotherapeutic agents using established safety protocols Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy (Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy) Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience providing pharmacist services in a clinical healthcare setting Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Ability to obtain and maintain all required background investigations and security clearances Compliance with all occupational health and immunization requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in Indian Health Service, Tribal health, rural healthcare, or underserved community settings Familiarity with federal healthcare environments and multidisciplinary care delivery models Experience using RPMS or other electronic health record systems
