Nurse Aide

Reports To: School Nurse (RN) / Principal

Location: Big Sandy ISD

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary: The School Nurse Aide supports the campus Registered Nurse in promoting and maintaining the health and wellness of students and staff. This position assists with basic medical care, first aid, health record management, and health program support, all under the supervision and delegation of a licensed RN.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the school nurse in delivering first aid and basic health care services to students and staff.
• Maintain accurate student health records, including immunizations, screenings, daily logs, and medication documentation.
• Monitor and report student health concerns to the RN.
• Administer over-the-counter medications and assist with prescribed treatments only under the delegation of the RN, following Texas Board of Nursing and TEA regulations (TAC Rule 217.11).
• Assist with mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and follow-up procedures under RN guidance.
• Maintain cleanliness and inventory of health office supplies.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding minor injuries or illnesses.
• Support identification and reporting of communicable diseases to the RN and appropriate authorities.
• Provide health education materials and support as directed by the RN.
• Escort students to and from the nurse's office when necessary.
• Ensure confidentiality of all student health information in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Current CNA or Medical Assistant certification (preferred)
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (required or must be obtained upon hire)
• Experience working with children or in a school setting (preferred)
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff and families
• Familiarity with basic health practices and emergency procedures (preferred)
