Qualifications Certifications
- RPSGT – Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- RST – American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)
- BLS – American Heart Association (AHA) (Required within 30 days)
- Associate’s Degree in Polysomnographic Technology (or Certificate of Completion)
- Alternative: Experience in lieu of formal education accepted
- Sleep Lab Experience
Responsibilities Sleep Technologist / Polysomnographic Technologist Patient Intake & Preparation
- Clinical Documentation: Records patient arrivals, interactions, and consents; verifies medical necessity by reviewing patient history and supporting documentation.
- Order Verification: Reviews and validates departmental orders, ensuring all insurance and prior authorizations are secured before testing.
- Patient Engagement: Conducts positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and patient education to improve therapy compliance.
- Technical Setup: Prepares patients for testing according to policy, selecting and calibrating specialized equipment based on specific physician orders.
- Monitoring & Quality Control: Performs equipment and physiological calibrations to ensure artifact-free data; documents routine observations throughout the testing period.
- Clinical Intervention: Implements age-specific care and safety protocols, including sleep-related therapeutic interventions as needed.
- Data Integrity: Executes "Lights On" procedures to verify data integrity and ensures all test documentation and patient forms are complete.
- Event Identification: Demonstrates proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and identifying clinical events (respiratory, cardiac, limb movements, and arousals) per professional guidelines.
- Advanced Scoring: Scores sleep/wake stages and clinical events utilizing established standards to facilitate accurate physician interpretation.
- Reporting: Tabulates complex physiological and behavioral data to generate comprehensive clinical reports.
- Safety & Hygiene: Manages equipment cleaning, disinfection, and infection control in strict adherence to lab policy.
- Lab Stewardship: Maintains professional relationships with internal and external partners; assists with supply inventory and general department organization.
Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $28.03per hour - $46.81per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
