A startup client of ours is seeking a
Design Phase Manager
for a global client-facing role responsible for leading the design phase of projects from contract award through startup and commissioning. This position owns the quality, completeness, and timely delivery of all design packages while serving as the primary point of accountability during the design phase. The role also acts as the key liaison between the client's R&D, Product Development, construction, deployment, commissioning, and service teams to drive continuous improvement and successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all project design phases, including milestones, scope control, change management, and issued-for-construction deliverables.
Establish and enforce design standards, review gates, and quality controls to ensure compliance with technical and customer requirements.
Serve as the escalation point for design and coordination issues across project teams, field teams, commissioning, and customers.
Manage relationships with external design consultants and construction partners to resolve design challenges efficiently.
Oversee submittals and technical deliverables to ensure timely completion.
Utilize AI and process improvements to streamline design workflows and reduce rework.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Project Management, Quality, Estimating, Commissioning, and Service teams to support successful project execution and continuous improvement.
Represent the client in customer-facing technical discussions, design reviews, and issue resolution meetings.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of experience in design or design management for mission-critical, industrial, or MEP infrastructure projects.
5+ years leading design teams and coordination efforts.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling systems, mechanical plant design, or mission-critical infrastructure.
Experience managing multi-site or large-scale project portfolios.
Proven ability to implement design standards, quality controls, and process improvements in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication, organizational, and customer-facing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
PE license or architectural degree.
Experience with data center cooling infrastructure, thermal management, or dry cooling technologies.
Familiarity with SharePoint, Power BI, AI tools, and Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms.
Experience scaling design functions during rapid growth and working within integrated project delivery environments.
Benefits
Role is REMOTE, outside of client travel. Up to 50% for first 6 months and then will decrease to 25%
